BALTIMORE, MD—A Maryland man has been sentenced to six years and three months in federal jail for laundering greater than $1.8 million in drug cash for a Mexican cartel.
The sentence, introduced by U.S. Legal professional Erek L. Barron, was the results of a responsible plea by 46-year-old Gerrod Davis, of Glen Burnie, who was convicted of laundering cash as a part of a drug trafficking group.
In keeping with the responsible plea, Davis transported massive sums of drug cash to a person purportedly performing on behalf of the Mexican Cartel between July 2020 and Could 2021. The transactions had been a part of an effort to advertise the drug trafficking group and its enterprise relationship with the Cartel, in addition to conceal the cash’s origins and possession.
The amount of cash that Davis laundered or tried to launder as a part of the conspiracy was a minimum of $1,811,611, according to a news release launched by Barron’s workplace.
Davis was one member of a multi-agency effort to research the drug trafficking group. The investigation was performed by the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Process Pressure, which incorporates federal, state, and native legislation enforcement businesses.
