Figuring out himself as a Mumbai Crime Department officer, an unidentified caller duped a 76-year-old Chandigarh lady of Rs 80 lakh, whereas threatening her with arrest in reference to 24 cash laundering circumstances in opposition to her, police stated Saturday.
Based on police, complainant Preetpal Kaur, a resident of Sector 11, Chandigarh, a retired CRID official, instructed police that she obtained a name from an unidentified caller, who acknowledged that he was calling from the Mumbai Crime Department.
The accused caller instructed the girl that she could be arrested quickly because the cell quantity issued in opposition to her Aaadhar card had 24 complaints of cash laundering registered, police stated.
The caller instructed the complainant that she must deposit Rs 80 lakh in a secret account for surveillance, which might be refunded if she was discovered harmless, police stated.
The lady, thus, deposited Rs 80,31,764 within the account via RTGS as directed by the accused, however when she once more known as the accused on his telephone quantity, it was discovered switched off, police stated.
Discovering that she was duped, the girl approached the Cyber Crime Cell of the Chandigarh Police with a criticism.
Performing on the criticism, the Cyber Crime Cell performed a preliminary inquiry and subsequently registered an FIR below related sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) on the Cyber Crime police station.
Police stated the account wherein the money was transferred was being verified together with the cell quantity particulars of the accused.
SP (Cyber Crime) Ketan Bansal stated, “The Cyber Cell staff is engaged on the case, and efforts are being made to hint the accused individuals.”
In one other case of dishonest, Ashwani Kumar, a resident of New Police Traces, Sector 26, Chandigarh, alleged that Harbir Singh, a property supplier in Maloya Colony, cheated him of Rs 3 lakh on the pretext of promoting a home in Sector 45C, police stated, including that an FIR was registered and an investigation was happening.
